A good chocolate frosting is a baking fundamental.
A good chocolate and Nutella frosting is an absolute necessity and should be eaten with a shovel (a garden shovel, not a driveway shovel – relax guys).
I rarely make chocolate frosting. I’m such a sucker for a creamy, light vanilla buttercream smeared on top of rich, deep chocolate cake. Chocolate on chocolate can be too much for me.
This frosting, however, does not make you OD on chocolate. Yes, it’s full of creamy and delicious chocolate, but the combination of semi-sweet chocolate chips and Nutella keep it from being a one-note frosting.
Plus, you don’t have to buy cocoa powder.
For those who don’t bake often, unsweetened cocoa powder isn’t always in the house. This saves you a trip to the grocery store (providing you’re the type who keeps Nutella in the house and stays sane).
I whipped this quick, easy frosting up in less than ten minutes.
It was the perfect topping for a slab of chewy, chocolatey Nutella brownies I tried out. To be honest, most of it ended up in a spoon which ended up in my mouth.
Now, I’m laying on the couch, eating a whole cucumber and trying to tell myself that I’ll be a better human tomorrow.
Have the BEST weekend! xx
1/3 cup of melted butter
1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
1/3 cup of Nutella
A generous pinch of salt
2 1/2 cups of icing sugar
3 tbsp milk
- Melt butter in a small dish in the microwave for 20 seconds, or until it is about to turn into liquid. Pour the butter into your mixing bowl.
- Using the same bowl you warmed up, add in chocolate chips and microwave for 30 seconds.
- Mix them together with a stand mixer, handheld or a whisk if you’ve got a great arm. Add Nutella and mix again. Add salt.
- Whisk in (using whatever method you wish) the icing sugar and milk. About a 1/2 cup of sugar at a time works best. Mix until fully combined.
